Pekanbaru (Catra Media) — PERSIS has officially strengthened its defense by signing Dutch center-back Xandro Schenk from Bulgarian top-tier club Septemvri Sofia ahead of the 2025/2026 Super League season.
Quoted from the official Persis Solo website, The Ajax Amsterdam academy graduate brings a wealth of experience to the Laskar Sambernyawa squad. Last season, Schenk made 24 appearances across all competitions for Septemvri Sofia, contributing four goals and three assists.
Schenk began his professional career with Ajax in 2012 before joining Eredivisie side Go Ahead Eagles, where he played from 2013 to 2015. He then spent several seasons with FC Twente, helping the club win the Eerste Divisie title in 2019.
His career later took him beyond Europe to the Saudi Pro League with Al-Batin during the 2020/2021 season. Schenk returned to Europe with Denmark’s Vendsyssel FF in 2021/2022, followed by a stint at Dutch second-tier side De Graafschap from 2022 to 2024.
Joining PERSIS marks Schenk’s first venture into Indonesian football. The 188 cm-tall defender expressed his excitement about the move.
“Of course, I’m really happy to be here. Indonesia is a beautiful country. It’s a completely new culture for me. I had a great conversation with the coach and some people from the club, and that’s why I decided to come and play here,” he said.
Schenk is confident in adapting quickly, citing his prior international experience. “I have experience playing abroad, so I’m very capable of adapting to different cultures, climates, and new environments,” he added.
He also aims to contribute significantly to PERSIS both on and off the field.
“I want to bring my experience to the team and help every individual perform at their best,” said Schenk.
The Dutchman vowed to give his all for the club and its supporters. “I can promise that we’ll give 100 percent in every game and fight to win every match. That’s what you can expect from us — we’ll give everything,” he concluded.
